HOW TO GIVE A SUBCUTANEOUS (SUB Q) INJECTION
1. Load the syringe
 
   a. Select the appropriate vial
   b. Draw up correct amount
   c. Use a new syringe every time
   d. Allow solution in syringe to reach room temperature  prior to
       injection 

2. Select injection site

   a. Usually in the scruff
   b. Vary exact location each time

3. Injection technique
   a. Make a fold of skin
       1. Lift skin with thumb and middle finger
       2. Press skin fold down with index finger to indent skin
   b. Hold the syringe like a dart and push the  needle completely
      through the indented skin
       1. Pull BACK on the plunger. If blood appears in the  syringe,
          start over at step number 1.
       2. If air appears in the syringe the needle may have gone
           through the other side of the skin fold. Start over at step
           number 3a.
       3. Push the plunger in to completely empty the syringe

*For those receiving allergy treatment, monitor pet 30         minutes for adverse reactions.
Contact Friars Road Pet Hospital immidiately if the              following occur:  vomiting, diarrhea, weakness,                  collapse, hives, or facial  swelling
Select injection site and make a fold of skin
Hold the syringe like a dart and insert into skin fold
Pull back on the plunger to ensure that no blood or air is coming back into the syringe
Push the plunger in completely to empty the syringe
